Auckland Council is praising the swift reporting of its staff for allowing an attempted bribery case to reach the courts.
The Serious Fraud Office has charged 48-year-old Johnson Yuejun Li with attempting to bribe a council official for a resource consent to subdivide a Hillsborough property.
He'll appear in court next month.
Council chief operating officer Dean Kimpton says any form of bribery is unacceptable and staff are trained to report suspected cases.
