A man accused of throwing a six-and-a-half kilogram wheel rim at a policewoman, seriously injuring her, goes on trial in the High Court at Hamilton today.
The 27-year-old defendant, who faces a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and the policewoman both have name suppression.
The incident happened after police were called to a 21st birthday party in Welcome Bay, Tauranga, in January.
The policewoman was struck in the face by the wheel rim, leaving her with a fractured skull, collarbone, and nose.
The trial is expected to last three days.
