KEY POINTS:
A man has been charged with indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl playing truant from school.
It was reported the girl had left the classroom and the school grounds after becoming "frustrated" during her day at school. She did not tell anyone of her departure.
Police have claimed she was invited into the home of a man living near the school where the alleged indecency took place.
The man, who has indicated he will plead not guilty, has been granted interim name suppression and the school cannot be identified.
A registrar at Christchurch District Court today remanded the man on bail to May 7 for a status hearing.
The registrar's remand meant he did not need to make an appearance in court.
The man has been charged with indecently assaulting a girl aged under 12 several weeks ago.
