A man charged with running a tinnie house has avoided jail so he can get medical treatment for Hepatitis C.
Terence Malcolm Winsor is charged with running a tinnie house at his Grey Lynn apartment, possessing marijuana, a P pipe and a pistol.
He appeared at Auckland District Court yesterday where he was remanded in custody to await his trial.
But today he was granted bail after Judge Roderick Joyce QC received a letter from Auckland hospital medical staff.
Winsor's lawyer, Adam Holland from the Public Defenders Service, said his 68-year-old client had Hepatitis C and was to take part in a clinical trial at Auckland hospital for treatment of the liver disease.
