Name suppression has been lifted on a Christchurch man accused of murdering a building missing for more than two years.
David Charles Benbow, 51, has pleaded not guilty in the Christchurch District Court this morning - where his lawyer entered the plea.
The man is charged with the murder of Michael McGrath - who was last seen at his Halswell home in May 2017.
Benbow was denied bail.
The defendant kept his eyes to the front of the courtroom, remaining expressionless.
Police announced 51-year-old Benbow's arrest on Monday evening.
Detective Inspector Kylie Schaare said police had been investigating McGrath's disappearance "tirelessly".
"I would like to acknowledge the commitment, resilience, patience and professionalism shown by the investigation team and those involved in this case."
Schaare said the arrest confirms the McGrath's families' worst fears.
"While Michael's family were realistic that he would not be found alive, I am sure a small part of them hoped they were wrong.
