KEY POINTS:
A 22-year-old man charged with reckless driving after he was accused of reaching speeds of 250km/h on the Lewis Pass Highway has been refused bail.
Nicholas Raymond Hunter Brundell's efforts to get bail failed in Christchurch District Court today and he was remanded in custody until Monday to try again.
He suggested a Christchurch address where he could reside, but police prosecutor Sergeant Dave Murray said that checks showed it was not suitable.
Christchurch District Court Judge Brian Callaghan then said the bail application could not proceed but remanded him for a hearing on Monday, if another address could be found.
Brundell at first faced four charges, but the case was delayed while more charges were laid and delivered to Christchurch from the police at Rangiora.
Duty solicitor Peter Dyhrberg indicated Brundell would deny all the charges, which include driving and burglary offences.
He is described on the charges as unemployed, and his address is given as of no fixed address.
