KEY POINTS:
A young man will appear in court today charged with driving dangerously and with excess breath alcohol after allegedly being clocked travelling at 182km/h, police say.
Inspector Derek Erasmus alleged the 22-year-old drove for approximately 3km on the Christchurch Northern motorway near Kaiapoi at 5.26am yesterday at 182km/h in a 100km/h area.
The driver was also in breach of his learner licence and the WOF on the car had expired in mid January.
He allegedly told police he "knew it was a dumb thing to do but he wanted to get home soon for a sleep as he had to get up at 7am".
