A Christchurch dog owner has appeared in court today charged with shooting a dog in the head.
Adam Milne, 24, has pleaded not guilty to recklessly ill-treating a male bull-terrier cross that was found alive and tied to a post on Intake Rd near the Waimakariri River on August 6.
A public appeal was launched by the SPCA at the time, with inspectors saying the dog had been shot three times in an apparent botched attempt to put it down.
The appeal led to Mr Milne, an electrician from the Christchurch suburb of Hornby, being charged.
He denied the charge at a Christchurch District Court sitting at the Nga Hau e Wha Marae today.
