Dunedin police were given the run around over the weekend by a man who allegedly committed three separate burglaries.
The 40-year-old man first stole a bicycle from a central city bike store on Friday night, Dunedin police Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said.
He was arrested and later released on strict bail conditions.
Mr Benn said the man then broke into a local motorcycle shop - twice.
On the first occasion, about 6pm last night, he took a motorcycle helmet.
Three hours later he was attempting to steal a motorcycle when he was caught by police.
Mr Benn said the man was due to appear in Dunedin District Court today.
