KEY POINTS:
A man being arrested for breaching bail allegedly attacked two police officers with a chainsaw, forcing them to hit him with their car to escape.
Sergeant Ed Baker said the officers went to an address at Mosgiel, south of Dunedin, to carry out a routine bail check on Saturday. As the officers tried to arrest him, he attacked them with a chainsaw.
"They ran from the address, got into their patrol car and he continued to attack the car with the chainsaw," Mr Baker said. "In self-preservation, the guys have hit the offender with the patrol car and it's knocked him off his feet and he's run away."
The man was found in Dunedin about 4pm yesterday and will appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
