A man was injured after his rifle accidentally went off while he was on a hunting trip near Murchison.
The man in his 60s was on a solo hunting trip in the Tutaki area near Murchison, when his rifle accidentally discharged while he was tramping through terrain.
The man suffered from a blast injury from a rock, injuring his face and upper body.
He was then able to make his way to a farmhouse, where he called for help.
He was treated on scene by a helicopter intensive care paramedic for his injuries and then airlifted by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter to the Nelson Hospital emergency department in a stable condition.
