Police investigating the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a man in Hamilton over the weekend are appealing for help from the public in locating the offender.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear of the Hamilton CIB said today a police patrol in the city's west came across the victim about 4am on Saturday.
"He came to their attention near the intersection of Norton and Riflerange Roads because of his distressed state.
"When the officers asked about his wellbeing, the man said he had been sexually assaulted.
"The 25-year-old told the officers he had been walking along Avalon Dr from Baverstock Rd between 1.30-2.30am when he was grabbed from behind by a male as he crossed the Riflerange Rd intersection."
Mr Bu Bear said the victim spoke of being taken to a vacant section where he was subjected to a prolonged sexual assault before his attacker left him.
The victim remained in this area walking around disorientated until found by police.
He said that the victim was not able to give a description of his attacker who was not known to him.
He asked anyone with any information on what occurred to contact him at Hamilton Central Police on 07 858 6200.
