An 88-year-old man on a mobility scooter has died after he was hit by a car while crossing the road on a pedestrian crossing outside a school in Taupo.
Senior constable Peter Sowter said the incident occurred at 10.20am yesterday. The man died in Rotorua Hospital from his injuries.
He was crossing Spa Rd on a pedestrian crossing outside Taupo-nui-a-Tia College when struck by the car.
An investigation is continuing into the accident and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
