An 18-year-old man faces charges of beating an 85-year-old man unconscious outside his South Auckland retirement home earlier this month.
A tip-off from a member of the public led to police arresting the man this morning for the April 8 attack on Louis Watts.
The teenager would be charged with aggravated wounding and burglary in the Manukau District Court tomorrow, police said.
Mr Watts was left bruised, bloodied and unconscious from the attack.
He was discharged from hospital on April 14, after spending a week recovering in Middlemore Hospital.
He has been told of his alleged assailant's arrest.
