An impressive list of honours were also awarded to players from Makoura College with Kata Matapuku being named an All Star Top Player for the senior girls team and Ngakita Matapuku, Darian Walker, Terina Boyce and Georgia Hutchby-Way all being named as All Stars in the junior girls' team.
The junior boys also picked up three All Star players with Moses Aeto, Kendall Peterson and Chance Ropiha earning that status.
Most Valuable Player awards went to Te Kapua Haira for the junior boys, Darian Walker for the junior girls and Kata Matapuku the senior girls.
At the beginning of the season, coach-mentor for both junior teams, Bennett, said he only had one goal and that was for the students to work hard for each other. The teams lived up to those expectations and surpassed his hopes by also acting as great role models for fair play and encouragement of each other and opposing teams.
Georgina Lologa, restorative co-ordinator at Makoura College and a basketball coach, said all players had improved during the season but those who really stood out in that respect were Chance Ropiha and Francis Governor-Wiremu in the junior boys team, Neve Tufuga and De Sharna Governor-Wiremu in the junior girls and Chontelle Mareikura-Orr in the senior girls.
Lologa said the success of all teams resulted from the commitment made to training and Bennett reiterated that, adding their willingness to learn new drills also helped their cause.
"They started training together at the start of term two and kept turning up every week to the training sessions," Kellas Bennett said.
Hopes are that the junior boys' team will be able to stay together next year and produce another championship winning effort and the same challenge is being set the girls' teams as well.
