Majority still want Zimbabwe tour banned

Latest poll results show the majority of people are still opposed to the Black Caps' cricket tour of Zimbabwe.

A total of 53 per cent of people surveyed for a Fairfax New Zealand/ACNielsen poll wanted the Black Caps' tour of Zimbabwe stopped.

However, this was down on a TVNZ/Colmar Brunton poll taken on June 30 which found 77 per cent of New Zealanders opposed the tour.

The Black Caps are due to tour Zimbabwe next month despite concerns over human rights abuses in the country by President Robert Mugabe's regime.

The New Zealand Government wants the tour scrapped, but New Zealand Cricket says it faces millions of dollars in fines if it does not go.

The International Cricket Council has said only a law change in New Zealand would be enough to prevent NZC being fined.
