A contractor damaged a cable, causing a power cut in central Dunedin this morning.
The DCC offices, Dunedin Public Library, Golden Centre and Meridian Mall were all affected by the cut, which hit more than 1500 consumers in the CBD and City Rise area about 11.10am.
Aurora Energy, on whose network the cable was was damaged, is working on the problem and expects power to be restored "over the coming hours".
The library said it was closed due to the cut, and the council said its after hours service was answering phones and asked that only urgent calls be made.
Otago Girls High School was also affected.
