Major delays for Wellington commuters

Commuters to Wellington this morning faced major delays after a pedestrian was seriously injured by a car on State Highway 1 at Paekakariki.

Inspector James Taare of police communications said the Highway was reduced to one lane as the police cleared the scene.

The male pedestrian was hit by a car as he was walking along the middle of the road at 5.30am, Mr Taare said.

The man was flown to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.
