Major delays after North Shore gas leak

Long delays await motorists as emergency services work to repair a gas leak on a major North Shore road.

A four inch gas main ruptured on Lake Rd, Takapuna early this afternoon.

Traffic heading to the area from Devonport or Esmonde Rd is expected to be delayed by up to an hour.

Police say no evacuation of residents is necessary.

They are advising motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
