East Auckland residents who have not started receiving Christmas card and letters in the mail could be victims of postage theft, not unpopularity.
This week several street posting boxes in the Auckland suburbs of Glen Innes, Pakuranga, Meadownbank, Kohimarama and Mt Wellington have been vandalised and had mail stolen from them.
New Zealand Post said it was working closely with local police as they investigated the incidents, which occurred late at night over the last few days.
New Zealand Post spokeswoman Jaimee Burke said anyone who posted mail at a streetside postbox in those suburbs should be aware that their mail may not have ended up with the intended recipient.
Those affected should consider whether they need to re-send that mail, or contact the intended recipient to check if their mail arrived.
