Bad weather has stopped courier deliveries across New Zealand in their tracks, and one truck is stuck with nowhere to go on the Desert Rd.
Fastway Couriers says the severe weather has had a dire impact on the national network and overnight deliveries are experiencing significant delays.
All freight destined for Kapiti, Wellington and the South Island has been delayed after a truck became blocked on the Desert Rd by a crash involving another truck.
Fastway Couriers Hawke's Bay spokesman Dave France said the courier truck was forced to wait for the overturned truck to be righted by a crane as it was too large to turn around and take an alternative route.
The stranded truck also had North Island freight destined for the South Island. The company was hoping the crash would be cleared within a matter of hours, however, just before midday the road was still closed and key ferry sailings missed.
In the South Island road closures because of have disrupted deliveries over the main divide.
Four trucks - two with goods for the North Island - are waiting at a closed road checkpoint hoping to get on the last Cook Strait crossing before ferry sailings are suspended for days.
