A quake measuring six on the Richter scale has struck off the Bay of Plenty coast.
The quake struck just after mid-day, 60km north of White Island.
It had a focal depth of 250km and, according to the GNS website, was felt around the lower half of the North Island and upper South Island.
Computer users as far south as Nelson and as far north as Napier reported feeling the quake.
