Magnitude 4.5 quake shakes up Wellington

Wellington residents have been jolted by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake this evening.

One resident told nzherald.co.nz the jolt shook their house, while another said it felt similar to one received in Wellington when the Christchurch earthquake struck.

The quake was at a depth of 40km and was centred 20km north-west of Wellington.

A caller to Newstalk ZB said "it was quite a rock" and "my bed really rocked".

The widely-felt earthquake hit just after 10pm.
