A magnitude 4.4 earthquake gave Gisborne residents a bit of a shake this morning.
The quake occurred at 6.18am, and was centred 35km south-east of Gisborne, at a depth of 34km, GeoNet reported.
The earthquake also had a Mercalli intensity of 5, which rates its strength felt on the earth's surface.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
