Lundy prosecution calls final witness

The prosecution will call its final witness in its case against murder accused Mark Lundy at the High Court in Palmerston North this afternoon.

A pathologist who was not on the original list of witnesses will give evidence.

The jury has already heard from more than 130 Crown witnesses.

Lundy is charged with murdering his 38-year-old wife Christine and seven-year-old daughter Amber on August 29, 2000.

Earlier this morning the jury heard evidence from a number of witnesses, including one woman who said Lundy had made her feel uncomfortable when he asked her to come to his home for dinner.

Lundy's invitation came on November 9, 2000 at a wine function.

Joanne Butcher said she politely declined, and moved to another part of the table. She left shortly after.

A couple of days later she received a message on her cellphone from Lundy, again saying he would like her to come for dinner.

Defence counsel Mike Behrens, QC, will call his first witness tomorrow morning.

The court will not sit on Friday.

Justice Ellis this morning told the jury that he expected the trial to be over in about a week's time.
