One lucky Lotto player has scooped the Powerball division one prize for the first time, winning $8.2 million.
The ticket, bought in Whangarei, had all the six winning Lotto numbers and the Powerball number.
The Lotteries Commission said the prize would be paid out in one lump sum, by check or direct credit into the winner's bank account.
The winner will also receive a a booklet suggesting ways of dealing with such a large amount of money.
The prize is more than twice the previous largest prize, won once in 1992 and twice in 1993.
