"We hit the post twice and missed an open goal. You can't get away with that sort of thing in this grade of hockey."
Harbour City made the most of their attacking opportunities and can count themselves fortunate to come away with the spoils. Dion Field netted for Dalefield and was unfortunate with another effort which came back off the upright.
The team then had to front up the following day in a home fixture against Indians at Clareville.
Indians were coming in fresh to the game while fitness and stamina were always likely to be factors for Dalefield when playing a double-header, something that Blackwood conceded.
"Yes, we might have been a wee bit jaded after the Harbour City game. We rather let things get away from us in the first half. We found it hard to get a grip on the game, especially at the start."
Trailing 3-0 at the break to a slick counter-attacking Indians side who dominated the vital midfield area, Dalefield put in a far more concerted effort in the second half and spent much of the time on attack, a period capped when Hayden Sargent found the back of the net.
Blackwood singled out defender Chris Mason for special mention because "he really held it together for us" but was also quick to praise everyone else for their second half performance.
Reflecting on the final 4-1 scoreline in Indians' favour, Blackwood conceded that their opposition's ability to score on the break had been a huge factor in the final result and considering Dalefield's second half effort, the final scoreline was "disappointing".
"We're putting it together in parts but haven't managed to do it for the entire game yet," he said.
