Choosing an environmental friendly car will be easier with a new consumer information website that went live today.
The Land Transport New Zealand (LTNZ) website rates cars in terms of fuel efficiency and safety.
Over 2300 new and used cars will be listed on the website.
A six-star rating system will allow consumers to compare cars. The more stars the better the vehicle.
LTNZ chief executive Wayne Donnelly said the website was part of LTNZ's aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transport.
"We all want safer roads, cleaner air and lower fuel bills, and the cars we choose to drive make a big difference. Last year cars changed hands more than 825,000 times in this country," he said.
The website will also include background information on cars and safety standards.
