Lower Hutt residents are calling for increased safety measures on a road where a 4-year-old boy was hit by an SUV on Friday.
The boy has a broken leg after being hit on Connolly St just after midday on Friday.
A white SUV is alleged to have slowed down after the collision but didn't stop.
Residents have proposed starting a petition to deal with the 'insane traffic' on the street, which has three childcare centres.
On the online Lower Hutt Community Notice Board Jaci Gilbertson said she wanted judder bars, a pedestrian crossing and speed cameras on the street.
