The men played for the Brockett and Captains Trophies at Mahunga last weekend and the scoring at the top was very impressive.
In Saturday's medal round, 61 or 62 netts were required to finish at the top on the three groups. In the first group, it was a 62 nett that had Roc Dravitzki at the top, with Graeme Dick the runner-up on 64, while both Harley Biel and Wayne Evans finished on 66.
Damian Carroll headed the second group with a 61 nett, with Niusila Faaiauaso in second place on 64, while Nooroa Rota and Mark Logan both finished on 65. The third group fell to Laurence Butler on 61 nett, with Graham Duckett, Rose Alexander (back on holiday from Australia) and Nikaya Graham all finishing on 64.
The Solway Pie Shop nearest to the pin on the first hole was taken out by Greg Granich, while the Mitre 10 on the third fell to Rod Dravitzki. Grant Hildred, a visitor from Kaitake, took the McAuley's Transport on the sixth hole, Troy Shaw the Makes Cents on the eighth hole, Ian Johnson, also from Kaitake, the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds on the 10th hole, and Layton Kawana the Dinah and Deb Keats Professionals Real Estate on the 17th hole.
Twos were scored by Anita Karaitiana, Ray Cocks, Adam Ross, Grant Hildred, Damian Carroll, Nooroa Rota, Mark Logan, Niusila Faaiauaso, Robin Britt and Nikaya Graham.
Sunday's competition was also a medal round, and the good scoring continued. In the first group, Daniel Towgood led the way with a 64 nett, with Mike Alexander and Paul Haxton both registering 66, while Gavin Towgood and Nooroa Rota finished with 67.
In the second group, Phillip Granich took the top spot with the day's best score of 63 nett, which was one better then Maurice O'Reilly, with Laurence Butler on 65 and Robert Tiapue fourth on 66. Holes in two were scored by Paul Haxton, Greg Granich, Mike White and Terry Fleet.
The winner of the Brockett Trophy for the best two round gross score was Raymond Cocks.
