Low lying fog closes Wellington Airport

All flights in and out of Wellington were cancelled this morning because of low fog.

Wellington Airport spokesman Park Erueti said both Air New Zealand and Qantas had suspended check-ins around 8.30am.

"It's a bit of a wait and see game," he said.

"We've got about 150 people in the terminal at the moment, either rebooking for flights this afternoon if the weather lifts, or it will have to be tomorrow."

Arrivals were last night diverted to Palmerston North Airport and passengers bussed down to Wellington, arriving in the early hours of the morning.

Passengers booked on this morning's Virgin Blue flight to Brisbane were also en route to Palmerston North by bus and were scheduled to fly at 10.15am.
