Aucklanders have low expectations of their new Super City council's performance, a survey published today says.
Aucklanders think the new Super City will make decisions faster than the eight councils it replaces but they are not persuaded it will do a better job of growing the economy and jobs and improving the quality of life.
The survey commissioned by the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development ahead of local body elections found 27 per cent of thought their new city would make faster progress as a result of the reform, 25 per cent said it would make slower progress, while 25 said no faster or slower and 22 per cent didn't know.
Aucklanders were evenly split over the new council would do a better or worse job than the current councils in growing the economy and jobs, while preserving the quality of life (the social and physical environment), 23 per cent said it would do better (5 per cent much better), and 23 per cent said worse (8 per cent much worse) while 35 per cent said no better or worse and 20 per cent didn't know.
The survey of 634 people within the new Auckland Council area was conducted between August 24 and September 14 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 per cent.
