The New Zealand man caught in a violent love triangle in Dubai has reportedly spent six weeks in jail without being charged.
It is understood Aucklander Toby Carroll and his British lover, Danielle Spencer, 25, were arrested on December 12 after they were caught in bed by his Brazilian ex-girlfriend and attacked with a knife.
Mr Carroll had broken up with his former partner, known only as Priscilla, earlier in the day. All three were arrested, and have been in jail since without charges being laid.
Mr Carroll and Ms Spencer could face charges of having illegal sex.
"It was their first date," a source familiar with the case told Britain's Daily Telegraph. "The Brazilian girl came early in the morning and found her with the boyfriend.
"She took the knife and knifed the curtains.
"She ran after the British girl who was hiding in the bathroom. The man was afraid and called the police."
Both the women are in the sole women's cell at Bur Dubai police station, which has been subject to repeated complaints about overcrowding. It is meant to hold 40 people but often houses 90 women or more, sharing three to a mattress.
The source said that, despite their proximity, Ms Spencer and Priscilla not come to further blows.
"They have become friends - it is now all okay," the source said.
The Brazilian woman faces charges of violence and criminal damage and possibly violent conduct.
"When officers arrived they came across a bizarre scene," a police source told Britain's Daily Mail.
"The trio were shouting at each other and all hell was breaking loose. The officers had to try and calm them down.
"Lawyers are still trying to decide what offences to charge them with. But they have been made fully aware these are serious allegations which the courts will pursue vigorously."
Ms Spencer has lived in Dubai since around 2005, and worked in the property business until recently.
One of her friends said he had missed a call from her at 5.30am on the day she was arrested and had not been able to see her since.
She was able to call him last week and said she was "doing okay" but conditions were "not too good".
Sentences for sex outside marriage among non-Muslims usually range from one to three months.
