When Edendale, Southland, local Lois Heads had to decline involvement in another community service, she cried.
Mrs Heads reluctantly turned down an invitation to speak on Children's Day at the local church due to over-committing to netball coaching, sitting on school boards, involvement in the tennis club and Plunket, running a dairy farm and looking after four children, including a son with disabilities.
Mrs Heads said it was important she gave back to the groups that have helped her children. In particular, she wants to invest in her children's education.
As a member of the Edendale School Board she championed the school's development through goal-setting, strategic planning and forming bonds with other local schools. She was also responsible for setting up an annual quiz fundraiser so the school is able to buy something on its "wishlist" each year.
Mrs Heads has been named a regional finalist in the Pride of New Zealand Awards, in the Lifetime Achievement category, for her dedication to the Edendale community.
