Lotus has announced a hybrid version of its Evora sportscar, which is not yet available in New Zealand. Troubled Lotus last month saw chief executive Danny Bahar sacked by the parent company.
It had been alleged that he gave away cars and made generous use of helicopters, first-class flights and fancy hotels.
The hybrid Evora, called 414E, uses two electric motors driving the rear wheels with a battery pack that can be charged by Lotus' clever little range extender engine, or by mains electricity. The three cylinder range extender can run on petrol or bioalcohol fuels like methanol.
With 305kW and 1000Nm sitting behind the driver, the 414E sprints to 100km in 4s and has a top speed of 209km/h.
