New Zealand’s newest millionaire has spoken out about his $23.3 million Lotto Powerball win over the weekend, saying he spent the following evening “out there with the planets”.
The New Plymouth man said he was initially oblivious to his win, spending time in the garden on Sunday afternoon.
He decided to check his ticket when he went to the supermarket with his sister “to grab a few things”. His sister encouraged him to check it as she had heard someone had won the jackpot.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, said of the Lotto clerk’s reaction: “I couldn’t work it out for a second – she had a stunned look on her face and couldn’t talk, she just tapped the screen.
