KEY POINTS:
A search was launched in Canterbury yesterday after an endurance race competitor failed to show up at the finish line.
Anna Wilkins was reported missing about 5pm after she had not arrived from the last part of the day's events, a 12km run, near Methven.
A police spokesman said she was found safe and well on a ridge not far from the finish line in the afternoon and flown out by helicopter about 3pm.
Wilkins had taken a wrong turn in misty conditions, but when she found she was lost she did exactly what she should have done and stayed put.
