Just one of the semi-final matches in Netball Wairarapa's premier one competition will be played tomorrow.
Sports Arena Carterton and Gladstone All Blacks will meet at the Colombo Road courts in Masterton at noon but with unbeaten Harcourts unable to field a team their game with Kuranui College has been postponed until next Saturday.
What happens under the repechage competition format is that whoever wins between Harcourts and Kuranui will automatically qualify for the final on September 13 while the loser there gets a second bite of the cherry.
They will play the winner of the Sports Arena Carterton v Gladstone All Blacks match at the Genesis Recreation Centre next Monday night in a game which will decide the other finalist.
What all this means then is that whoever wins tomorrow's semi-final is still in the reckoning for the premier one title but the loser is a goner.
Sports Arena Carterton and Gladstone All Blacks have met on two previous occasions this season . The first of them was a see-saw affair which ended in a 34-all draw while Sports Arena Carterton called the tune in the second, winning 32-19.
Those results suggest Carterton Sports Arena should start favourite tomorrow, and that sentiment is supported by the fact they have pushed Harcourts harder than any of the other premier one sides this season.
Gladstone All Blacks are, however, an experienced side who won't be fazed by the pressure of the occasion and a win to them is by no means out of the question.
Their challenge will be to restrict the supply of quality ball to the Carterton Sports Arena shooting circle as the latter are generally very consistent in that vital area of the game.
The three college sides playing in Netball Wairarapa's premier one competition this season will all be taking part in the Lower Island secondary schoolgirls tourney to be played at Vautier Park, Palmerston North from Monday to Friday next week.
St Matthew's Collegiate and Wairarapa College are in the A grade section. St Matthew's is in the same pool as Newlands (who they will play at 8.30am Monday), Paraparaumu (Monday 12.30pm) and Sacred Heart (Tuesday 10.45am) while Wairarapa College's opponents in pool play are Taita (Monday 11.30am), Taradale (Monday 3.30pm) and Gisborne Girls (8.45am.).
Kuranui College will be one of the strongest contenders for the B grade title, the winners of which will be promoted to A grade for next year. Their pool games are against Cullinane (Monday 9.30am), Waiopehu (Monday 3.30pm) and Tahui Taiohu (Tuesday 9.45am).
Loser will be a goner
