Loose joint sets up major jam

Transit partially closed SH1 for more than two hours yesterday after a motorist called authorities at 1.30pm when they spotted a metal joint on the bridge near Drury "flopping around".

A Transit spokesman said the metal joints did not hold up the overbridge, so it had not been at risk of falling down. Police reported traffic backed up to central Auckland yesterday afternoon but said several factors might have contributed.
