Carterton district councillors on Wednesday voted to update time-limit parking in the town.
It was one of several parking bylaw changes councillors approved at their monthly meeting that included bringing a town parking bylaw adopted in 2006 into line with "current and relevant" legislation, extending limits in Belvedere Rd from 60 to 90 minutes, and the upgrading of some parking signage, says Milan Hautler, council planning and regulatory manager.
The Carterton District Business Incorporated group had requested the time-limit change on behalf of Belvedere Rd workers and business owners who protested at the parking limits.
The Wairarapa Times-Age also had earlier outlined an email sent to the council by Al O'Connor, a Victoria University masters student and legal researcher, who said the Carterton time-limit bylaw was "fatally flawed".
He said the bylaw was legally deficient and lacked proper statutory references - as was the case with a bylaw enacted by the Hutt City Council that he had also brought to the attention of its chief executive.
