Long wait for injured man

A man lay injured in his car for almost 14 hours 40m down a remote bank before a road worker spotted his tyre tracks and investigated.

The 59-year-old had hypothermia, injuries to his head and ankle, and numerous cuts and bruises when he was found in the rugged Waieoka Gorge near Opotiki.

The man was flown to Whakatane Hospital.
