KEY POINTS:
A 100km detour is coming to an end for isolated residents of Kawakawa Bay near Auckland as the clearing of a huge landslip nears completion.
The landslip, which fell in heavy rain last month, blocked the Clevedon-Kawakawa road.
Residents either having to take a 100km detour or take a ferry to get to Auckland.
The Manukau City Council's organisational performance director, Robyn McCulloch, said good progress was being made with the cleanup and much of the material and debris covering the road had been removed.
"Right now the road is getting hosed down with water. This will clean the road and give the council an indication on the condition of the road.
"We don't know what the impact of the landslip has had on the road but we expect it will need some minor surface repairs."
Ms McCulloch said traffic signals were being installed over the next few days and would become active when a single lane could be opened.
