A relative says the man at the centre of a police investigation into two violent deaths in South Canterbury has been a loner ever since his father died several years ago.
Police are trying to piece together the movements of 43-year-old Jason Frandi, a heavily tattooed man who is understood to be the driver for a local contracting company.
On Sunday morning, motorcyclists discovered the bodies of a man and woman during an off-road charity event through a remote forest in the Waitaki Valley.
Police will say only that Frandi is missing and connected to the homicide inquiry but will not say how. However, Daryl MacDonald, one of the men who discovered the bodies, said the dead man was Frandi.
Last night, John Frandi told the Herald that Jason, his nephew, had become distanced from the wider family since the death of his father in Waimate several years ago.
