Residents believe a neighbourhood dispute was the catalyst for yesterday's fatal shooting at the quiet coastal township of Seacliff, about 25km north of Dunedin, but police are yet to comment.
Police responding to an emergency call about 8.20am yesterday discovered a critically-injured 59-year-old man in Truby King Reserve.
Last night, the man remained in a critical condition in Dunedin Hospital. It is understood he suffered serious gunshot wounds.
Police would not comment on the relationship between the pair, but said a firearm was found in the reserve and they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the matter.
Police would not comment on the nature of the woman's death or how long she was believed to have been dead.
