Masterton had a big say when New Zealand scored a decisive win over Australia in their Trans-Tasman petanque international in Wanganui last week.
Three Masterton players, Graeme Morris, Ralph Priddle and Bob Bridge, were part of the senior team which romped home 75-45, while Barb Johnston and Claire Wilson were in the open side who finished with a commanding 85-35 advantage.
It was the fifth successive victory for New Zealand in this competition with Morris, Priddle, Johnston and Wilson all having been part of the action last year as well.
Bridge, too, has played for New Zealand. His home address is actually in Kerikeri but he is registered with the Masterton club and will play for them at the club nationals to be held at Rotorua on May 5 and 6.
Morris, Priddle, Johnston and Wilson will join him there, along with Joan Miller, who played for the Kiwis last year but was ruled out through injury last weekend.
