Local Westie finds hidden cash; organiser plans more hunts

The search involves participants tracking down clues leading to a hidden amount of cash.

Hidden cash prizes and treasure hunts could soon become a regular fixture in Auckland.

The city's first HiddenCash search, brought on after a worldwide craze originating in San Francisco last month, took place in Henderson yesterday.

As part of the search, which was co-ordinated via the Find Our CASH Auckland Facebook page, participants tracked down clues leading to a hidden amount of cash.

It took local Westie Paul and his partner about two hours to track down the $100 prize at Falls Park.

The event's organiser, who wanted to be known only as Richard, obtained sponsorship for the search from West Auckland Facebook consultant company Easy Social Media.

He chose to hold the city's first search in Henderson because "of all the bad news" surrounding the area and the sponsor's location there.

"I want to definitely do weekly cash hunts and I've pretty much put a call out on the page for more sponsors.

"I would like to see a $500 sponsor jump in. I reckon a lot more people would run around for that."

Search winner Paul, who did not give his last name, estimated between 80 and 100 people were out hunting for the $100.
