Local seller makes Trade Me's top 10

A signed 1955 Miles Davis single, offered by a Wairarapa seller, has made it on to the top 10 most viewed Trade Me auctions of the year in New Zealand after it received 193,936 views and sold for $990 last October.

Trade Me spokesman Paul Ford said it was one of the most interesting items the website had on sale during the last 12 months with interest from all over the country and overseas.

Miles Davis is renowned as one of the 1950s finest exponents of jazz and Mr Ford said the listing had captured the imagination of Trade Me customers.

He said the number of contrasting items on the top 10 list was unusual.

"There's a bunch of unusual things and there's some really unique content. The Miles Davis single is probably the most mainstream of the top 10 list."

The single came in at No4 behind the sale of the implosion of the Radio Network House building in Christchurch which topped the list with 459,420 views.

Bidding started on the chance to detonate the 14-storey earthquake-ravaged building on July 24 with a reserve of $1.

It sold for $26,000 after eight demolition companies combined to make the largest bid. They generously gave the Child Cancer Foundation the opportunity to detonate the building.

Six year old Queensland cancer patient Jayden Halliwell was selected to detonate the explosives and on August 5 he became the first person in New Zealand to blow up a high-rise building.

At No2 on the list was Lower Hutt woman Tina Beznec's "YOUR tattoo on my Bum" auction which sold for more than $12,000.

After she was was made redundant twice in the past year, she offered the buyer the opportunity to advertise anything on her bum in order to pay off her mounting bills. The winning bidder was a Wellington-based strip club.
