"Follow the locals" should be a winning theme at the Wairarapa Greyhound Racing Club's TAB meeting at Solway Showgrounds tomorrow.
Indications are that Wairarapa-trained greyhounds could win at least half of the 10-race card and leading the charge will be club president Owen Marron who should dominate race three, a class one middle distance, with his duo of Mystery Ellie and Scandanavian.
Other leading prospects from the Marron team are Celestial (race five) and Saviola (race nine).
Eketahuna trainers Shayne and Matthew Gardner have a host of winning chances between them, including Pania's Reef (race one), Turbo McCookie (race two), Banjo Country (race four), Turbo Jewel (race five) and Cawbourne Stewy (race eight)
.
RACE ONE:
Waikato visitor GUNGULLIN is the logical choice here.Has been placed in stronger company up north and drawn to lead all the way .The consistent PANIA'S REEF is drawn awkwardly at seven but knowledge of the track is in her favour.REBECCA'S PAL is genuine enough and has the early pace to make light of the six trap. MISS CHIEF has the ace draw and that's always a major plus in maidens.
RACE TWO:
TURBO MCCOOKIE won nicely last time out and looks well placed to make it two on end. ANTONIO has had little luck lately and is quite capable of surprising at long odds. INADMISSABLE is usually thereabouts and is drawn to get a trouble free run. MILO O'SHEA tends to spoil his chances with tardy beginnings but nothing will be finishing stronger than him.
RACE THREE:
Kennelmates MYSTERY ELLIE and SCANDANAVIAN appeal as a dead set quinella. Aussie import Mystery Ellie was going to win at Hut Park last week when the lure broke down and the race was abandoned. Scandavanian is a railer so the one draw will suit perfectly. UPAHUT LOONY has been racing in better company and will appreciate the drop in class. GAZZA'S JEWEL is consistent and can't be ignored either.
RACE FOUR:
BANJO COUNTRY has a solid form background and the one draw suggests she will start a warm favourite here.BRACES MY DEAR quit maidens with an impressive effort at Solway two starts back and looks set for another bold effort. EARL MCROBERTS has plenty of early speed and can place at lucrative odds. SISTER STAMP will get back early but should run on well.
RACE FIVE:
URBO JEWEL is a quick beginner so the six trap should hold no fears. An all-the-way win is on the cards.CELESTIAL is making a return to racing after a decent break and is the just the type to sprint well fresh. FARMER JOHN treks south from Auckland with handy form and would only need to handle the track to be a big show.SALLY'S DELIGHT is another northern raider with some chance.
RACE SIX:
RALPH has been struggling to make an impression over hurdles but back to flat racing could get under the guard of punters. He is a handy sprinter at best and knows Solway well.MISTER FORBES has the inside draw and should also improve vastly on his latest efforts. HELLO SAILOR won't be suited by box seven but can still get some of it.MONDO CAMPIONE is a previous winner at Solway and deserves some respect.
RACE SEVEN:
UPAHUT ROSE has gone some of her best races at Solway and from the inside trap should be in the firing line from go to whoa.HE'S A BLUR ran an improver's race at Hutt Park last week and has won at Solway in the past. BRONNIE BOLTA has the early speed to make light of the six draw and is talented enough to pull this off.UPAHUT AXION has a good finish and is a definite place hope.
RACE EIGHT:
PRINCE ZIDANE came to grief last time out but is normally a safe jumper and appeals as a "shot's eye" in this one. Should go to the lead early and run them off their feet. GONE TROPPO has not been racing with his usual dash of late but can never be under-estimated. CAWBOURNE STEWY won well enough at his last start to be given some show of a repeat..KOTUKU ARANUI is an honest sort with obvious appeal for place punters.
RACE NINE:
Auckland visitor RIVETTE REASON has been a finalist in both the Auckland and Wellington Cups and will find this company right to her liking. Her kennel-mate WINSOME GUY bounced back to winning form last week and should be her main danger in what is a quality line-up.PELICAN CREEK has the advantage of the one trap and won't be far away. SAVIOLA has plenty of early speed so the five box shouldn't be a worry.
RACE TEN:
YALLAH ROSE has beaten better fields than this and from the three trap is capable of being first out and first home.FARMER BENSON is racing in the best form of his career and is the likely favourite despite having his first look at Solway.PHAEDRA seldom goes a bad one and the two draw is a bonus.FLIRTATION is promising and would be well in the hunt with a smart beginning.
