KEY POINTS:
Local authorities' income from rates rose by $79.3 million in the September quarter.
The 9.6 per cent increase from the June quarter pushed total income to $902.9m, Statistics New Zealand said.
It said total seasonally adjusted operating revenue for the September quarter was $1517m, a small increase of $6.3m compared with the June 2007 quarter.
The main contributors to the increase were rates, government grants and subsidies (up $15.1m or 7.1 per cent), and regulatory income and petrol tax (up $4.9m or 6.1 per cent).
These increases were offset by sales of goods and services (down $64.5m or 21.2 per cent) and total investment income (down $28.5m or 31.6 per cent).
