Building a new safety footpath at Castlepoint, so pedestrians don't have to walk on the road, and new traffic calming devices, on Jetty Road, are in the pipeline if Masterton District Council goes ahead with raising a loan.
Councillors will be asked at a policy and finance meeting today to approve a loan of $296,500 to go ahead with what is known as Stage 1b of the Castlepoint improvements work programme.
The request to councillors comes from assets and operations manager David Hopman, and after a meeting held with the Castlepoint Residents and Ratepayers Association.
In part, the work would provide pedestrian and four-wheel drive emergency access to the beach, adjacent to the toilet at the western end of the bay.
Two sets of concrete steps would be built with a marine grade stainless steel handrail on one side, and a limed vehicle ramp built over the existing rock protection wall. The calming devices on Jetty Road would be between the Castlepoint Store and Balfour Crescent.
